Shirakami Fubuki is a well known member of Hololive since she made her debut on June 1, 2018. A Hololive Japan first generation member, and Hololive Gamers leader, she charmed audiences with her playfulness and unique charms. In this blog, I look at how Fubuki became a pillar member of Hololive and reminisce her importance in the VTuber era.
As a fox-girl VTuber at her start, Fubuki started off with an energetic and fun personality and friendly content. She was known for having a good time and possessing an amount of energy that was infectious with fans. Her signature greeting; "Kon Kon Kitsune!" Her character’s essence immediately resonates with viewers making her similarly connected from the moment you see her on screen.
In her streams we could see her versatility as a content creator; from gaming to singing and even having interactive chats. Fubuki has taken her ability to communicate humour and relatable commentary to the audience is a popular and beloved figure in the VTuber community. Fans eventually started calling her the ‘Queen of Memes’ who included memes and cultural references in all her content. With viral success for her video 'I'm, Fubuki’s breakout moment. That led to her song "Scatman," which got millions of views and helped put her right in the public spotlight. This milestone not only showed her talent but also made her an important part of Hololive’s deployment to major culture as she expands.

Fubuki's also had entertainment value beyond being a figure to support Hololive. Often participating in collaborative streams and events where everyone brings their perspectives together to create a greater whole within Hololive, she has been an advocate for camaraderie among the talents she herself can be considered. It shows how much she is committed to helping the community grow and by being present during new members debuts, especially ones from HoloMyth (The first generation of Hololive English). Her readiness to get in and do the job in the hard times speaks to her leadership, if she were doing it for him, he would be hesitant to dip his toe in. She has impressed fans for her ability to air down tough rooms and create a positive atmosphere of the team. Earning her the respect from viewers, but also from fellow VTubers that admire her as a friend and mentor.
Beyond entertainment, Fubuki's presence is very important in helping to bring those cultural gaps between Japanese and international audiences down. She has seen both Eastern and Western memes growing up and has been able to use that as a way to create content that resonates with a huge fan base. Hololive’s cultural fluency has undoubtedly played a huge role in helping them rise to the top, with Fubuki’s relatable and engaging humour not just appealing to an audience who speak the same language, but those who can understand the jokes and relate to Fubuki’s humoured. She also likes to stay connected with her fans on her social media platforms such as Twitter which she uses to post updates, engage with her followers and also participate in trending topics. The engagement level is very high because fans feel they’re part of Fubuki’s journey, they feel like an extension of the crew.

Fubuki embodies what it means to be a true entertainer, she knows how to make you laugh but she’ll also make you feel comfortable when times get hard. Though her streams are often gameplay, they can be so much more than that — they are places for people to literally escape their own realities, to find joy in shared experiences. Additionally, I think Fubuki play a big role not only for herself but also as a pillar of Hololive moving forward. And with the industry still growing, having someone like Fubuki in charge who cares more about helping the community and being positive will allow Hololive to stay a safe and welcoming place for both creators and fans.
