The year of 2024 has been such a very gloomy year, full of huge separations that shook fans of Hololive and the VTuber community. Being the year in which A-Chan, Minato Aqua, Ceres Fauna, Sakamata Chloe, Amelia Watson, and Yozora Mel all left, many refer to it as a "dark year" in the agency. This blog tries to discuss what events came to pass, the reason for these separations, and how such events will affect the future of Hololive.
Management Retirement:

Yuujin A or A-Chan, one of the most vital features of Hololive management and one of the most loved personas among the fans, declared graduation in June 2024. She also stated that this was due to decisions in her personal life and not because of some situation within the agency itself. A-Chan has been integral in defining Hololive and building a nurturing environment for its talents. The immediate question following her departure will concern the management of Hololive in the future and what it portends for its remaining members.
Graduations:

Minato Aqua officially announced her graduation on August 28, 2024. During the emotional livestream pre-countdown announcement, Aqua cited creative differences with the management as the main reason for her leaving the agency. She really cherished her time in Hololive, but she felt that her vision could no longer go in the same direction. Since joining the group in 2018, Aqua has been an integral member of Hololive and greatly contributed to the success and fame of the agency.

The latest information, another highly respected member of Hololive English's Promise group, Ceres Fauna, just announced her graduation on December 1, 2024. Her leave from the organization was for January 3, 2025. This is in regard to her disagreement with the management, which became one of the issues that brought her to her graduation. Though she did say she is appreciative of every moment in Hololive, Fauna's departure surely epitomizes most of the complaints VTubers have with stressors within the agency.
Conclusions on Activities (Affiliated):

Amelia Watson announced that she would not continue the regular streams but would stay with Hololive, on September 20, 2024. Since she hasn't stated her reasons, there are speculations that she might transition to a production role in the agency. This is the announcement that came right after A-Chan had left the group, which may become one more sign of some kind of restructuring within Hololive.

On her third anniversary stream, Sakamata Chloe announced her retirement from all channel activities on January 26, 2025. Health issues from her busy schedule were the number one factor in Chloe's retirement. Although she thanked the management for trying to adjust her schedule to fit her needs, Chloe found it increasingly hard to balance her health and being a VTuber.
Contract Termination:

The most shocking news was that Yozora Mel was terminated on January 16, 2024. Cover Corporation announced the termination of Mel's contract due to violations connected with the leakage of confidential information. This incident doesn't just point out possible issues within the inner workings of talent management but also raises an issue in terms of transparency and trust within an organization.

There are apparently, however, certain common factors underlying these departures: discontent from within regarding the ways of Hololive management policy. More than a few of the talents have mentioned creative control, and the direction in which Cover Corporation is going since the IPO. The need to kowtow to the corporate bottom line seems to be somewhat at odds with the very singular artistic ambitions of some.
The change also had some of the talents take a step back and realign themselves in Hololive-in the case of Aqua and Fauna, changes in their creative direction have turned into departures that may reshape the face of VTubing but still under the Hololive brand.
The announcements really got the fans going; most took the sad news as confusing at best, considering everything has happened so recently. This was actually a big move that begged many questions regarding what the future of Hololive would be and how it would stay at the head of the VTuber scene.
As the year 2025 draws near, it is anyone's guess on how Hololive will respond to these happenings or, for that matter, what approach it will finally take to get into the root causes of the losses amongst the talents experienced within the year. Let us hope such changes are conducted to establish a more stable foundation for both the present and future members, while valuing individual visions and well-being.
Year 2024 is full of goodbyes, an indication of how worrying the trends have become within Hololive. This has also been a year of great reflection and change, with the involvement of both management and the talents themselves in moving forward into this ever-unpredictable world.
